Author Bio
Neil LaBute
“My plays are polarizing," says Neil LaBute. "People
love them or loathe them.” Born in Detroit, Michigan
and son of a truck driver, LaBute began his career as a playwright
but soon broadened his scope to filmmaking. Known for his quirky,
provocative dialogue and twisted
endings, LaBute chooses to portray subjects that many would not
— and shows his audience the way
that people really talk amongst themselves. After LaBute graduated
from the University of Kansas and
New York University, he got a scholarship to London's Royal Court
Theatre. It was then he became
interested in film and created them as he wrote his plays revealing
characters speaking of how evil,
ignorant, wounded, delusional, and disillusioned they were.
LaBute
is winner of the Golden Palm,
Cannes Film Festival for his work in Directing Nurse Betty (2000).
